Committees
Joining a local committee is a great way to get involved at our District Council. Committee members volunteer to help ULI SDTJ put on our events, connect with our members, and advance ULI’s mission. Some committees are more operations-oriented, while others are focused on a certain affinity group. Explore our committees below.
Committees
Engagement Committee
The Engagement Committee is broken down into two sub-groups: Membership and Sponsorship. The Membership Committee supports in onboarding new members, assists in outreach to expand our audience, and strengthens our overall member engagement for a better customer experience. The Sponsorship Committee strives to support our work in the Cali-Baja region through annual sponsorship and individual event fundraising.
Programs Committee
Our District Council hosts more than 40 programs a year including our signature quarterly breakfast, an annual marquee event, regional project/product tours, and topic-specific sessions. The Programs Committee helps plan and guide our events throughout the year.
Affinity Groups
NEXT Committee
NEXT is ULI’s affinity group that encapsulates all members aged 35 to 45. NEXT Committee members help organize events and meetings for this group of members.
Tijuana Leadership Committee
The mission of the Tijuana Leadership Committee is to enhance the connection between San Diego and Baja California, and increase binational awareness and participation in the San Diego-Tijuana District Council.
Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI)
WLI is an affinity-based committee whose mission is to raise the visibility and number of women leaders in ULI and the real estate industry. The group hosts monthly meetings and special event opportunities for any interested ULI member or nonmember. WLI is open to everyone, regardless of gender identity.
Young Leaders Group (YLG) Committee
YLG is ULI’s affinity group that encapsulates all members under the age of 35. YLG Committee members help organize events and meetings for this group of members.
Community Initiatives
Technical Assistance Panel (TAP) Committee
Technical Assistance Panels (TAPs) provide expert, multidisciplinary advice to local governments, public agencies, and nonprofit organizations facing complex land use and real estate issues in the San Diego-Tijuana region. TAP Committee members help us plan, organize, and carry out these TAPs.
UrbanPlan Committee
UrbanPlan is a project-based learning curriculum unit for high schools, universities, public agencies, and non-profit organizations. This urban planning simulation allows these groups to learn about planning and development, and consider the myriad of complex decisions that shape our built environment. UrbanPlan Committee members help train other volunteers and organize UrbanPlan sessions.
So, how do I join a committee?
Interested in getting involved? Committee member applications open each January. If you are approved, you will be invited to join a February or March meeting as a guest. After this, the committee will decide whether to approve you as a Conditional Member. In May, voting on new membership occurs and new members are initiated in June to start their term, coinciding with the fiscal year.
