Creating Housing for the “Missing Middle” – Best Practices A ULI-Member Public Official Luncheon
Of the more than 700 ULI members in the San Diego-Tijuana District Council, about 20% work in the public sector from across the region. They include professionals from planning departments, City Managers, the Port of San Diego, CIVIC, SANDAG, the Housing Commission, economic development specialists, and managers of BID’s. Rarely is there an opportunity for everyone to meet to share best practices and approaches that are resulting in successful development, including desperately needed housing.
On Tuesday, March 13, ULI San Diego – Tijuana will host a luncheon exclusively for ULI Public Sector Members and select non-members featuring a keynote presentation by Stockton Williams, executive director of ULI’s Terwilliger Center for Housing. Stockton will be sharing the recently completed report entitled “Yes in My Backyard” which shares successful strategies being used throughout the country to create more housing. Using these ideas as a spring board, we will engage attendees in a series of interactive exercises focused on innovative solutions in the areas of financing, construction costs, policy, and the public process.
The luncheon will provide a nonpartisan platform for networking, learning, collaboration, and will focus on the tools, policies, messaging, and resources needed to deliver a full range of housing options for every segment of the community. Our goal is that the event will create greater dialogue among regional stakeholders and that each participant will leave with at least one great idea!
